Barbara Gallani

Barbara Gallani, as Director of Food Safety and Science of the Food and Drink Federation (FDF), is responsible for the development, implementation and promotion of FDF’s policy with respect to scientific, technical and regulatory issues. This involves the evaluation of relevant policies developed by UK, European and international institutions and the representatives of FDF’s positions in discussions with Government officials, Parliamentary committees, European and UK organisations and media.

Previously Head of the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionary Sector Barbara was responsible for a number of policy issues including food safety, residues and contaminants, nutrition, labelling, responsible marketing and trade.

 Before joining the FDF Barbara worked as Food Policy Executive at the British Retail Consortium where she was responsible for food safety and emerging risks, GM issues, organic farming and consumer interests.

Before joining the British Retail Consortium in London, Barbara worked in Brussels as Food Policy Advisor at the European Consumers Organisation.

The Food and Drink Federation is the voice of the UK food and drink industry, the largest  manufacturing sector in the country. FDF’s membership comprises manufacturers of all sizes as well as trade associations and groups dealing with specific sectors of the industry.
